Project details

This page expands the short notice you see inside the app. Read on for every detail of the study.

1  Purpose

Standard SDKs and JavaScript APIs give developers great features, but the same attributes can combine into a device fingerprint. We measure how unique those fingerprints are and build better privacy defences.

  • Gauge how unique a phone looks from API data available to any SDK developer.
  • Compare native-SDK vs. JavaScript fingerprints.
2  Procedure

After you tap I Consent the app records harmless attributes (model, OS version, screen size, network operator & more) that any normal app can access. A WebView inside the app does the same from the browser side.

Data travel encrypted to our university server, are anonymised where possible, and processed only for the goals above.

3  Data Collected

Examples of what we log:

  • Device model, manufacturer, OS version
  • Screen resolution & pixel density
  • Network operator name (no phone number)
  • WebView properties (user-agent, WebGL vendor…)

No photos, contacts, or local files .

4  Use & Confidentiality
  • Data live on an encrypted database at EURECOM.
  • Only anonymised aggregates may reach partner universities.
  • Your identity is never published.
  • Raw data are deleted when the study ends.
5  Your Rights

GDPR gives you the right to access, correct or erase your data at any time. Email rgpd@eurecom.fr or use the app’s “Contact Us” form and quote your user-ID.

6  Other Info
  • Risk: none beyond normal app use.
  • Compensation: none – purely academic work.
  • Voluntary: quit at any time; request deletion at any time.
7  Summary of Consent

By tapping I Consent in the app you confirm that …

  • you’ve read and understood this information,
  • your data are for academic research only,
  • you may withdraw with no downside.
